Patrick (Pat) S. Powell is the founder of the Lexington, Kentucky office of Corporate Finance Associates. He brings over twenty-five years of comprehensive business experience to the practice of middle market mergers and acquisitions. In addition to being a skilled M&A intermediary, Powell brings a personal understanding of the complexities and risks associated with family business. This unique awareness enables him to expertly navigate and coach business owners through the intricate transaction process of selling or growing a business.
Mr. Powell remains a stakeholder and board member of his family’s business which holds real estate and mineral rights in Kentucky and Tennessee. During his career in the industrial minerals industry his management responsibilities ranged from strategic planning, finance, and business development. Powell received one of the industrial minerals industry’s most distinguished honors when he was named a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society emphasizing his notable contributions to the ceramic arts and sciences.
Pat formerly managed state economic development contracts for the University of Kentucky and Murray State University as the Director of the Innovation & Commercialization Center (ICC). Most of the ICC clients were technology-related startups or early stage businesses ranging from Software and IT to Life Science companies.
He holds a BS degree in Business Computer Science from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas.
Pat and his wife, Betsy, have one daughter and a son-in-law. They live in Lexington, Kentucky.

David Hulett is a Managing Director in the CFA Kentucky office. David is an entrepreneur who has a considerable background in investments and strategic planning for business owners. His advisory skills combine years of investment experience with hands-on knowledge of small businesses.
David has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, during which time he specialized in meshing business, financial and estate planning for owners of privately held companies. He has performed management and compliance functions for Merrill Lynch and has been a Certified Financial Planner for over 22 years.
As an owner/operator of several small businesses, David can easily relate to CFA Kentucky’s clients and prospective clients. As an experienced consultant to many small businesses, he has guided multiple business owners through the transitional planning process. David’s extensive background makes him well-qualified to address the capital challenges facing today’s entrepreneurs.
David resides in Lexington with his wife, Beth, two daughters, Haley and Abbey, and German Shepherd puppy, Hank.

Dean Durbin is a Managing Director in the CFA Lexington, Kentucky office. His CFA practice is primarily focused on helping middle market business owners in the Ohio Valley Area reach their goals of growth and/or divestiture. Dean leverages his years of corporate experience along with his success in building, running and exiting his own business, for his role at CFA as an Investment Banker. He understands first-hand what company owners are thinking about as they contemplate such a life-changing business transaction. Dean is a proven creative leader and project manager, who is focused on completing maximum value transactions for his clients.
Dean began his career as a production superintendent for Vulcan Materials Company where he managed a large stone quarry and processing facility. He later progressed into the engineered construction products industry where he served for many years for Contech Construction Products in sales and marketing roles. Dean currently holds a Professional Engineering license.
Dean enjoyed a long and successful career in the construction products and engineering industry. His major responsibilities included management, strategic planning, and business development. In 2017, just prior to joining CFA, Dean successfully exited his 85-person engineering and drilling company with locations throughout the Ohio Valley region.
Dean received one of the industry’s most distinguished honors when he was named Kentucky Society of Professional Engineer’s (KSPE), Engineer of the Year in Construction. He currently serves as the President of the KSPE Bluegrass Chapter and President of the Dunbar High School Athletics Boosters. He is a former U.S. Army officer, youth sports coach and referee.

Bob Decker is a Managing Director in the CFA Lexington, Kentucky office. Bob’s CFA practice is primarily focused on helping middle market business owners in Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana, with particular emphasis on helping them to reach their goals of growth and/or divestiture.
Bob is a seasoned finance professional with over forty years of experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and operational management. His career includes ten years with an international boutique investment bank specializing in the hospitality, gaming and leisure industries, and before that in a number of senior financial management positions in the hospitality and gaming industries, including six years as EVP & CFO of Churchill Downs, Inc.
Bob’s experience as both an investment banker and as a senior financial management professional gives him a unique insight into the business challenges faced by CFA’s clients and prospective clients.
Bob has a BS degree from Florida State University, is a Certified Public Accountant and resides in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife, Ann. He is active in community affairs in Louisville and has served on the board of directors of various professional and civic organizations.
